Mexico’s Economy Expands at Fastest Pace in a Decade as Growth Hits 5.5%

Mexico’s gross domestic product expanded last year at the fastest pace in a decade as Latin America’s second-biggest economy recovered from a 2009 recession provoked by the global financial crisis.  GDP, the broadest measure of a country’s output of goods and services, grew 5.5 percent last year, the most since 2000, the national statistics agency said on its website.  Read more:

GE Inaugurates Advanced Engineering Center in Mexico

U.S.-based multinational conglomerate General Electric inaugurated a $20 million advanced engineering research center Thursday in the central Mexican state of Queretaro. The center is part of a complex where GE currently designs components such as the GEnx turbine – used in Boeing 787 aircraft and capable of reducing fuel consumption by up to 20 percent – and makes parts for the Airbus 380, the world’s largest commercial airliner.
